In 1971, Qatar discovered the North Field, a massive gas field approximately 6,000 square kilometres in size – half the size of the landmass of the entire State of Qatar. With reserves of over 900 trillion cubic feet in place, the North Field is by far the largest single non-associated gas field in the world. Today global demand for clean-burning gas is growing rapidly and technological developments have made the costs of producing and transporting gas longer distances more competitive, making the exceptional North Field ever more important.

The development of Liquefied Natural Gas, Gas to Liquids, pipeline and petrochemical projects is ushering in enormous wealth and opportunities. Qatar’s visionary leadership is determined that this wealth will be used to create new industries, diversify the economy, provide first class education to its populationand consolidate the country as an academic hub for the region.
