And if everyone is seen only as 'the consumer', does that erode our sense of national identity? Are we laying the ground for a nationalistic backlash against globalisation? Does the growing divide between rural areas and cities matter to business? Is business only interested in investing in urban areas? Should the gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’ be any concern of business anyway - isn’t that the role for governments? Answers Our panellists will have their own perspectives on these issues, but we want to hear your views as well. Use the forums on this website to join in the global debate now and your comments could influence the questions put to the panelists in the broadcast CNBC International debate taking place on the 27 January. |

In the first debate of the 'Questions for the future' series, we ask a panel from the World Economic Forum in Davos for answers to some of the big questions about globalisation. These days, it doesn’t seem to matter which country you work in. Stand in a shopping centre in Caracas and you could just as well be in Singapore. Questions The shops may look the same, but are consumers really the same the world over? If we are becoming more uniform, is that good for business? Or does it only help global businesses? |
