If businesses are judged on short-term targets, and Corporate Social Responsibility programmes (CSR) are of necessity long-term activities, how can CSR be justified?
Is CSR a necessary expense or a strategic investment? Is it just a way to get a tax-break? Or some good PR? Will it ultimately have an impact on the bottom line? What percentage should be spent on it? Should firms be forced to participate in CSR programmes? Does CSR work? Answers We’d like to hear what you think about Social Responsibility. Does your organisation take it seriously? Discuss this and other issues raised in our Questions for the future series, by joining our online forums and your comments could influence the questions put to panelists in the broadcast CNBC International debate taking place on 11 July. |

In the fourth debate of our 'Questions for the future' series, we ask a panel in The Hague for answers to questions about Social Responsibility. All companies need to consider the economic, social and environmental impact of their activities, but do they also need to put something back into the communities in which they operate? Questions Should business have a responsibility to the community and the environment? Why does it matter- isn’t that a role for governments? What can companies actually do to help? |
